FAQs
Do you offer free trial classes?
Our Drama department offers one free trial class so your child can experience TDA Performing Arts before deciding whether to join. It’s a great opportunity to meet the teachers, make new friends and see what we’re all about.
Can parents stay during the first lesson?
All of our classes are drop off classes only. We don’t allow parents to watch lessons, including trial classes. We find that children settle more quickly, become more independent and build confidence when they can fully immerse themselves in the class. Our teachers are experienced at helping new students feel welcome from the moment they arrive.
What qualifications do your teachers have?
Our teaching team brings together a wide range of professional qualifications and industry experience. Across our staff you’ll find qualifications including BA (Hons) Acting, MA Acting, MA Choreography and Movement Direction, ISTD, RAD, IDTA and British Gymnastics coaching qualifications, alongside extensive professional performance and teaching experience.
Are all staff DBS checked?
Yes. All of our teachers hold an Enhanced DBS checks, and undergo safeguarding training to ensure the children in our care are always our highest priority.
How do performances work?
We offer two types of performances throughout the year.
Our in-house showcases allow students to demonstrate what they have been learning during the term and celebrate their progress with family and friends.
We also produce larger theatre productions that are run like professional shows, giving students the exciting experience of performing in a real theatre with costumes, lighting and a full production team.
Do you offer LAMDA exams?
Yes. We offer LAMDA tuition and prepare students to take nationally recognised LAMDA examinations. When our teachers feel a student is ready, we’ll enter them for an exam. Please note that LAMDA examinations have an additional examination fee.
Can beginners join at any time?
Absolutely! Beginners are always welcome. Simply book a free trial class or reach out to one of our staff members for advice on which class is perfect for your child and come and become part of the TDA family.
What uniform is required?
In our Drama and Musical Theatre classes, students should wear comfortable, appropriate clothing that allows them to move freely during class. Some classes, particularly our dance classes, may require specific footwear or TDA uniform. These can be found on our uniform page. If you’re unsure what’s needed, just send us an email and we’ll be happy to help.
What happens if my child is nervous?
That’s completely normal! Starting something new can feel a little daunting, and many children feel nervous before their first class. Our teachers are experienced in helping new students settle in, make friends and feel confident. Before long they’ll feel right at home.
How do I sign up for Drama classes?
You can book any of our drama or musical theatre classes here.
How do I sign up for Dance classes?
Reach out to Helena via her contact form here or by phone.
Can children with SEND attend?
We believe performing arts should be accessible to everyone, and we strive to welcome children with SEND into the TDA family. Before your child starts, we’ll arrange a conversation with you to understand any additional support they may need so we can make sure we are able to accommodate their needs, recommend the most suitable class and ensure they have the best possible experience.
How do I report an absence?
If your child is unable to attend due to illness or injury, please call or text us to let us know. If your child will be away on holiday for one of our shows, we’d appreciate as much notice as possible so we can make appropriate adjustments. Please note that any classes missed cannot be refunded.
What if I miss a class?
When your child enrols or renews at TDA, we book them a place in the class for the term. This means that, even if they don’t attend, that space has been reserved for them and no other child can take their place for that class. Unfortunately, therefore, missed classes cannot be added on to the end of a block under any circumstances.
How do I contact my teacher?
You can contact your teacher by email, telephone or through our online parent portal. We’re always happy to answer any questions you may have.
Is there parking at the venue?
Most of our venues have limited parking available. We recommend allowing a little extra time before your class, particularly during busy periods.
Can I hire TDA workshops for schools?
Yes! We offer workshops for schools, community groups and organisations. Simply send us an email with your requirements and we’ll be happy to discuss how we can create a workshop to suit your needs.
Do you offer private Dance, LAMDA, acting or audition coaching?
Yes! We offer private one-to-one and small group coaching in acting, singing, musical theatre and audition preparation. Lessons can take place at our studios, online via Zoom or at your location where suitable. We offer flexible scheduling and a range of pricing options.
What if my child doesn’t want to attend?
In our experience, children who show a reluctance to attend, when they have previously been attending happily are sometimes responding to other pressures relating to school, friends or family issues.
In these situations, it’s often best to call your teacher to discuss the problem. They will be able to tell you how your child has been performing in the classes and may have an insight into any problem areas.
If you’re sure you don’t want your child to continue attending classes already paid for, please be aware that we don’t offer refunds.
How can I pay for my sessions?
For our drama classes, you have the option to pay in monthly payments or termly. Larger blocks of sessions will give you a slight discount on the cost per session.
For dance classes your sessions will be invoiced every half term. How do I become a TDA teacher?
We’re always interested in hearing from passionate people who want to inspire the next generation. Whether you’re already qualified or are working towards qualifications, we’d love to hear from you. Send us your CV and we’ll let you know when suitable opportunities become available.
Can adults join any classes?
Yes! We offer opportunities for adults to take part in drama and dance classes, develop new skills, keep active and even perform in productions.
